I’m Bree…a 31-year-old who is completely addicted to reading and coffee.
My love of books began at an early age, I learned to read at the age of 3. In 1st grade I read 200 books, and by the 3rd grade I was reading books meant for the kids in grades 5 and 6. My love of reading has never diminished over time – though there are periods that I’m unable to read, I will still find myself perusing the aisles of bookstores for more books to add to the ever-expanding “to be read” shelf.
My affection for all things coffee was a bit slower of a start – my dad was always a coffee drinker but my mom hated the stuff. I’d always enjoyed the smell, personally, and could handle it only if it was mixed with International Delights creamer (and a LOT of it, almost half and half). Then I started working as a barista at Starbucks and I was literally forced to try every drink they offer, as well as try every type of bean they have in a French press. And then I was done – I was a full-on coffee lover from that point on, at the age of 29. Although I don’t work for Starbucks anymore, I do enjoy their handcrafted beverages on occasion, and anxiously wait for their specialty beans to come out each season.
You will notice that I read a lot of genres – I’m not too picky when it comes to books and will give almost anything a go at least once. My favorites are young adult, dystopia, and contemporary fiction, but that doesn’t mean I won’t throw in a romance, sci-fi fantasy or memoir if it intrigues me. 9 times out of 10, I will choose a book by it’s cover – I know they say not to, but for me, if a cover catches my eye, I’m more likely to pick it up and read the blurb. The other 1 time of 10, it’s by word-of-mouth from a friend or trusted reviewer. I hope that I will become a trusted reviewer to some and will be able to help readers choose amazing books to spend their time with.
In my personal life I’m a divorced mom of 2 – my kids don’t live with me, but we have amazing adventures whenever we are together. They are 10 and 8 years old, and one of the highlights of my life. I work as a night-shift lab analyst so I keep very crazy hours (which works for me…I always said I’d like to be able to skip mornings, and now I can, lol!) I’m also a computer whiz, I love technology (unless it’s not working, at which point I want to throw it across the room), photography and graphic design. My computer and Photoshop are not getting along at the moment, so I’m working on the blog in spurts, but I’m hoping it will come together soon!
